PROJECTS

These are the videos/films where I've contributed in a large creative way or where my presence on the project has had a significant influence on the finished product.

CAHOOTIFY INTERVIEWS & PROMOS (2021)

Video Producer

Employed through a Kickstarter Scheme, I was one the video producers and key creatives in a small team of young employees. I had a part in almost every piece of creative output, chiefly then it concerned video work, and edited the majority of Cahootify's marketing content in this 6 month period (this video workload was shared with creative collaborator and fellow video producer Tom Whitson). To begin with, I put forward a myriad of ideas - producing briefs, storyboards, shot-lists and even video tests to pitch promo ideas. These ideas would be picked up and developed as a team in brainstorming sessions. Once the idea was solid, we went out (using our own equipment) to film and produce the piece of advertising content.

Most of the work that I made was released by the company online, on their social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube etc.) - which I exported platform-specific versions for each. Although my employment as part of the Kickstarter team has come to an end, I imagine my professional relationship will continue into the future.

THE MIRROR SELF PROJECT (2020 - ONWARDS)

Curator and Executive Producer on many of the Productions

The project is to ignite creativity and encourage the completion of a personal and artistically representative series of short films from various creatives, from different backgrounds and artforms. To do this I wrote a instructive brief and several supplementary documents and have reached out to various people to make a film based and restricted by the creative brief.

We have gone on to produce 6 different short films involved in the project, being an active producer on each, and am developing more as the months go on. Contact me if you are interested in reading the brief and knowing more about the project.

Auteur Poster 2.jpg

AUTEUR. (2021)

Writer, Director & Producer

My upcoming release, Auteur was shot in July 2020 (during the UK lockdown) with a crew of four. Inspired by the concepts that were challenged by the French New Wave directors like Godard and Truffaut, the film is a sideways critique of the concept of the auteur theory from the mouths of character who probably don't even know what the theory actually is.

Currently in the editing process, with a first cut already finished. Motion graphic designs are needed for it's completion. The film is set to be released into the festival circuit soon.

PILLOW TALK (2020 - 2021)

Script Supervisor, Continuity & Assistant Set Designer

Pillow Talk is a web-series that is being made by BearTrapper Films, a Independent Production company which I am a frequent collaborator. There are seven episodes in this series and we have filmed three and a half episodes so far. I have acted as a Script Supervisor on each set so far and have also supervised the continuity on each one.

Mainly out of necessity and due to the detail-focused nature of my role on set, I have also filled in as a Assistant Set Dresser for specific shots. Especially during the pandemic, the web-series' production designer has not been on set while filming is in progress and that is when I come in to assist on the look of specific background elements.

The episodes have not been released just yet, but it is an exciting project to be apart of. I look forward to seeing the finished product in its entirety. In the meantime, I will be working on this production sporadically throughout the rest of this year.

STUFFING (2020)

Assistant Director & Script Supervisor

Another film shot during lockdown, made with a cast & crew of four. I look on the role of Assistant Director as well as my regular crew role of Script Supervisor. In these roles I dictated how long we would spend on certain elements of the film and determined the best way of taking on the project throughout the day. We ended up finishing the film early that day with more material than we originally planned on filming.

I have since been signed on to other projects in the Assistant Director role, where I look to work closely again with the directors to complete the film in a comfortable and enjoyable manner.

THE MAN WITH NO FACE (2020)

Director

This was the first film I directed after finishing University, as well as the first film I directed without a big hand in the writing process. And all this happened because we were sat around with an expensive lens and an itch to scratch.

The film had an unusual production cycle, in that there was hardly any cycle at all. The film was a collaboration between everyone involved, with a bit of 'the right place at the right time' type of air to it which really added to the spontaneity on set. It was intended to be a short, fun and creatively challenging endeavour, and I believe that's retained in the film itself.

DRIFT (2020)

Lead Actor

Over the UK lockdown there was a competition on the site Cahootify called the Escape Micro Short Contest. We shot and entered Drift as a team lead by the brilliant Calum Bradshaw. I took on one of the lead roles and we shot in two separate locations with different crews - one in Eton and the other in Bristol. After a small campaign we won the competition and the small cash prize was shared equally.

WE CANNOT SEE IN THE DARK (2020)

Story, Script Supervisor, Set Photographer & Runner

The original conception for this film happened while myself and the Writer-Director Clement Jochem were trying to come up with ideas for our final year film - the one that ended up being Flint. After a lengthy conversation about Lovecraftian Horror I began to outline a story about a couple going to a dinner at an old friends house. The story I outlined in full that day became the basis of this film.

After I gave Clement the story structure, with detailed ideas for scenes, he went off and wrote a first draft. I did not touch the script other than giving notes and ideas along the process. I was then given the role of Script Supervisor during production and was given the opportunity to see an idea that originated from a conversation in a living room a year before change into something entirely different. It was thrilling!

THIS IS IT AND NOTHING MORE (2019) & BEHIND-THE-SCENE VIDEO (2019)

BTS Video, Script Supervisor, Set Photographer & Lighting Assistant

This project was originally conceived alongside the criteria for a competition in which a Behind-the-Scenes video was a primary part of a film's entry. I independently took on the creation of this behind-the-scenes element - shooting it, directing/conducting the interviews and editing the video that accompanies the film.

The experience of doing this was extremely educational and was something I enjoyed very much so. I have since taken on several behind-the-scene projects which are in the process of being finished.

THE GREAT GREAT GAME (2019)

Set Designer & Script Supervisor

I worked for a day on the set of this 90 seconds short film. Before I arrived on set, in spite of asking previously, I was not given a role to fulfill during the day I was simply asked to turn up. After helping with moving equipment into the set I noticed that the location we were using looked very baron and started to work on decorating it with props and other items I found around the building. After a while that became my role on set before we started shooting - I designed and placed all the props in their places around the room as well as went out and bought objects to fill the empty spaces. My set design work can be mainly seen in the last shot of the film when the camera tracks back.

When we got to shooting the film I stepped into the role of the script supervisor where I noted down each shot with relevant notes which became important for the editor in post-production. The notes I wrote down on paper were transcribed by myself to a table I made on Microsoft Word, which I typed out that night.

The film is looking to be entered in to multiple competitions and film festivals in the UK.

FLINT (2019)

Written, Directed & Produced

This is my final year University short film -- FLINT. A neo-noir thriller with fast action and complex characters. The film has recently been completed and is awaiting submission into the festival circuit.

I wanted to make something more ambitious this time, so I did. Another production we build from the ground up. We used no student actors, included scenes in various exterior locations, and shot over a number of weeks. This is a film I am proud of and I hope others will appreciate the work of an amazing cast and crew who gave their free time, unpaid, to make this film happen. It has already been a pleasure to make and I can't wait to make more like it.

FIVER (2019)

Written

Fiver is a project which I co-wrote that has been made into a short film by a new student director. It is a film about the struggles of someone recently made homeless, readying himself to brave his first night without shelter. Most of the things that I wrote have made the final cut of the film which has been circulating on the InFilm Productions YouTube page.

CARRY ON (2018)

Written, Directed & Produced

Although this short film was originally produced as a University project, we are looking to see if we can enter it into some small-time film festivals. This is a film which I helped make from the ground up. To date, this is one of the most realized projects I have worked on. Hitting upon a topical subject matter, the film took several drafts to write before going into production. I took control of the film's three-act story structure and attempted to break it down to keep it a short, but powerful, film.

Because the film was based in several different locations, and with me taking up the role of director once again, the shooting schedule spanned about an entire week, with some days having us working on the film much longer than a nine-to-five job. Once production was finished, editing the film took as long as production (with us still needing to do some tweaks here and there in order to enter it into some potential festivals). But once the original version was submitted, I knew I wanted to move on into making something bigger.

This film won "Best International Short Film" at the Kolkata Screen Short Fest 2020.

STRENGTH FROM WITHIN (2018-PRESENT)

Creative Video Content Producer

I joined Strength From Within as one of their Team Members, who aim to help the organization with their goal of supporting underprivileged students with their transition into higher education. With my film background and equipment, I was asked to help produce a video series which they started on their YouTube Channel. Very quickly, I became one of the creative producers of their video series in Bristol, where I produced the majority (if not all) their Bristol based video output. Most of the time, I scripted and edited the videos as well as filming them.

Currently, the series has finished, with more video content coming up soon.

VIOLENT AMERICA: MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN (2018)

Created By

For one of my creative modules at University, I decided to make an Art Installation rather than a regular short film. It was the only one of its kind made on this unit. My reasoning for the decision was that it would bring across a more impactful message if the viewers were surrounded by an arranged experience rather than just watching the content on a single screen.

I also relished the idea of having full creative control of an environment rather than an audio/visual video. However, the task I set for myself quickly became extremely challenging to organize on my own. I enlisted some help for the setting up of the project and was able to be completed within the deadline without any issues. I finally received a 2:1 on this Art Installation.

Below is the video that was projected onto an American Flag.

THE WITNESS (2018)

Written and Directed

Starting off as a test film and growing into something more, this was made to show off what we can do. Working with a small crew of three, we set off to shoot our original script in one day - with me as the director. The aim was to accentuatestyle and to test my directing abilities, in all stages of production. Once it was finished, we entered it into the first ever InFilm Society film festival, where it gained one of the top billings, and was shown to an audience.

A MAN WALKS INTO A BAR (2017)

Script Doctor & Sound Recordist

This is the film I probably had the least contribution to; though I would argue my contribution was somewhat significant.

Before entering production, I was given several drafts of the script, at various stages, where I would write notes on possible changes and alterations that could be made to better the film. These were namely dialogue tweaks but I also suggested some actions like including a moment where the protagonist overpays for his drink. Script doctoring is something I do regularly, where people send me a draft of a script and I would go through it with them and give them my thoughts and ideas.

I was also on set for this film to give more ideas, in addition, to helping set-up the sound equipment and record the majority of the film's diegetic audio.

EARLY PROJECTS

The Very Beginning

These projects are the first (completed) short films I made. They were all produced while I studied A Level Film Studies and BTEC Creative Media Production at Worthing College. I received an A grade and a Distinction* [star] respectively by the end of my studies there.

This is where I began to learn about the filmmaking process and where I developed a passion for it. Both films were written, directed, and edited by me and I learned about all stages of production. Through experimentation and practice, I discovered much about video-making by producing these shorts, improving my craft and process. I have made this page to show my growth, from where I am to where I was, and I will continue to develop further.
